BARC ‘n’ Howl

Blue Ash Amphitheatre and Nature Park

Blue Ash, Hamilton County, Ohio

Difficulty – Easy - .3 miles on paved/wood chip trails

Placed – 2-June-2002 by Team Grey Wolf

You will find the BARC ‘n’ Howl letterbox at the Blue Ash Recreation Center, 4433 Cooper Rd., Blue Ash. The clues begin at the entrance to the Nature Park, found at the Southwest Corner of the Rec Center’s plot. The entrance is marked by a sign on the right, with announcements above and a map below.

Enter the trail, and you will immediately come to a fork in the trail marked by a big yellow PLEASE. At this fork, stay right. You will pass a picnic pavilion on your left, a playground and restrooms on your right. Continue past the trail on the right, just beyond the place where music can be heard on Summer nights. Continue past the trails on both left and right, marked by a plaque commemorating the establishment of the Nature Park.

Go past dinosaurs on your left, and a rock wall, a police car, a Twin Flyer, and the General Store on your right. At the next picnic pavilion (on your left), the paved trail makes a sharp turn to the right and down a hill. There is a trail paved with wood chips dead ahead – take it.

There will be a trail on the left, opposite the horseshoe pits – Ignore it!! The trail moves ahead and curves slightly to the right. You will come to a “T” intersection, where you can only go North or West. Take Horace Greeley’s advice to the “Young Man”.

Down the path you have taken, you will find a circular clearing with a small tree in the center, and a wooden bench on the far side. Walk to the left, front corner of the bench, and turn left. Take 10 adult steps (about 2.5 feet each) toward a large tree on the right side of the trail. At the base of the back side of the tree, you will find a stack of tree bark. Remove the pile of tree bark and you will find what you are looking for!!

Once you’ve checked out the letterbox, please make sure you put it back where you found it and cover it with the bark. You can go back the way you came, or go down the trail past a lamppost. It will take you to the horseshoe pits.

This is our first ever placement of a letterbox – we’d appreciate any feedback you might have!!

Thanks,
